Popeye’s Employee Arrested After Shooting Manager Over Burnt Biscuits, Officials Say

Rodney Wood, a 22-year-old manager at a Popeyes restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after reportedly shooting a co-worker. The incident happened on May 11 during a verbal disagreement about burnt biscuits. According to a bystander, the two workers went outside to fight after one challenged the other over the issue, according to the Independent

During their fight, Wood reportedly took out a gun and fired two shots. A video shows him shooting at close range, hitting his co-worker once in the groin and once in the chest. The injured employee was hospitalized with serious injuries and needed surgery.

When police responded, Wood had already fled the scene. But he was quickly located in the same shopping center. He claimed that the co-worker he shot was a manager as well and stated he was punched three times before firing two warning shots. Despite his explanation, the arrest affidavit noted he did not provide a credible reason for self-defense.
