Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Porsha Williams denied being involved in her estranged husband Simon Guobadia’s ICE detainment. The actress said snitching doesn’t benefit her, and she wouldn’t wish Guobadia harm just because they were no longer together. Simon Guobadia’s ICE detainment comes amid multiple previous efforts to get him out of the country. Meanwhile, he had just celebrated over four decades of living in America when he ran into immigration trouble.

Porsha Williams Refutes Claims She Caused Simon Guobadia’s ICE Detainment

Porsha Williams was on The Breakfast Club podcast on Wednesday when she cleared the air on Simon Guobadia’s ICE detainment. After Guobadia got detained last month, there were rumors that Williams tipped off immigration services about her estranged husband’s situation. Many speculated that the actress did it to get back at the businessman with whom she had a nasty divorce. However, Williams denied doing that.

“No, no—it doesn’t benefit me at all,” she told her hosts.

She added:

“Mentally and financially, it doesn’t benefit me.”

Williams clarified that she doesn’t hate her estranged husband even if they are not on good terms.

“Just because you’re going through a divorce doesn’t mean you hate someone. I hate actions, I hate lies, I hate a lot of characteristics, but I love the person. I would never wish harm on anybody,” she explained.

She also fired some shots at Guobadia, saying:

“[He] is a slithering snake. He’s going to find his way out of it. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

Simon Guobadia Overstayed Visa

ICE officials took Simon Guobadia into custody last month in Georgia. Currently, his status reads “in ICE custody.” At the time, Williams released a statement on her Instagram Stories on February 21, writing:

“It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”

In the meantime, the Nigerian businessman is being held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. According to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta, Guobadia entered the United States in 1982 and went out of status in 1985 after allegedly overstaying his visa. Meanwhile, the 60-year-old entrepreneur celebrated over four decades of living in America just last year.

“Happy Tuesday to all who ever overcame and persevered in life,” he captioned a February 2024 Instagram post. “You are winning. #42yearsLivinginAmerica.”

Simon Guobadia Reportedly Deported Previously

Simon Guobadia’s ICE detainment has been a long time coming, given his many run-ins with immigration. He has been arrested several times for fraud. In 1987, he pleaded guilty to bank and credit card fraud. Authorities detained him twice afterward. He was also deported and physically removed in 1992. However, Guobadia returned in less than a month using a different identity. He got permanent residency using an undisclosed identity, according to WSB-TV 2.

Before Simon Guobadia’s ICE detainment, he tried applying for citizenship by naturalization numerous times but was unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the businessman has always been in the public eye due to his multiple relationships. He has been married four times, including to Porsha Williams. However, it still surprised many when they announced their marriage of just over a year was ending.

Many believe Porsha Williams’ statement that she was not involved in Simon Guobadia’s ICE detainment. However, some think someone close to her tipped off officials, while others believe the reality TV personality lied.
