Kameron Goodwin, a former USPS carrier in Houston, has been indicted in a $1 million mail theft and check fraud operation.

Over a period of time, Goodwin, 26, allegedly led a ring that stole checks from Harris County mailboxes, altering them to be fraudulently cashed. Keyshawn Jones, 25, Sylvester Brown, 31, Desiree Junius, and her mother Doris Butler were also charged as co-conspirators, KPRC reports.

The suspects even garnered a name, the postal plugs,” according to reports.

Junius and Butler reportedly assisted in cashing the altered checks. Emmitt Charles, 27, received over $20,000 in stolen checks and was charged separately in a related scheme.

The group reportedly stole checks, manipulated them, and used fake identities to deposit the stolen funds into fraudulent accounts. Authorities believe this was a highly organized operation, exploiting their access to the postal service and personal information to carry out the theft.

“Goodwin ran a vast criminal network, stealing well over $1M in checks and brokering them to at least three bidders, who in turn washed, altered, or counterfeited the stolen checks, then deposited and stole the proceeds,” prosecutors wrote in court documents obtained by KPRC 2.
