Kaylie Corona never got the chance to hold her first child all because of the recklessness of a 19-year-old driver. The pregnant teenage mom was only asking questions regarding her 15-year-old sister when the driver ran into her and sped off.

According to Riverside police, the 16-year-old had noticed Blackhorse Garcia, 19, around their home. In fact, he had just dropped off Corona’s 15-year-old sister when she came out to meet him. The pregnant teen then complained about the driver having an inappropriate sexual relationship with her sister who’s a minor.

But rather than explain himself, Garcia immediately sped off, hitting Corona in the process. ABC 7 later secured doorbell footage that showed the incident. Via the video, the authorities confirmed that at the time of the hit, family members who noticed it rushed to the struck victim. Not long after, they raced to a nearby hospital where Kaylie Corona was declared dead.

The little silver lining in the episode was that the teen’s baby was saved. The family later named her Elena, but doctors say that the child is in a critical condition. Expectedly, the family grieves their loving child and deceased daughter who is excited for motherhood. They have since created an online fundraising account for her funeral expenses.

Meanwhile, the police have apprehended Garcia. He is currently in custody and has been charged with murder, hit-and-run resulting in death, and two counts of illegal sex with a minor. The suspect remains in custody and will appear in court on April 14.
