President Donald Trump had promised to ban transgender athletes— a promise he made during his campaign days. Following the POTUS’ signing of this law, no biological male will be allowed in a female sport, which many complained had denied women fair play.
ABC News officials got first-hand information from the senior administration office stating that this new law will be passed on Wednesday. This will usher in a new order for Federal agencies including the Department of Justice to interpret Title IX.
Thus, schools and athletic associations will conform to this new order. Expectedly, sports groups like the NCAA will play by the rules of the federal agencies. Charles Baker, President of NCAA pledged loyalty to federal laws following a Republican senators hearing last year.
Despite President Trump’s agenda to ban transgender athletes, sources confirmed that he will be signing this law with a room full of supporters. Surprisingly, the list includes athletes, coaches, and people who for years have touted against trans-sports.
Amid the support President Trump is getting, some individuals have called him out, claiming that the ban will further sideline young athletes. Kelly Robinson, Human Rights Campaign President, this law will cause discrimination against people who don’t fit the general gender spectrum.
However, senior administration officers of the White House maintained that this was not the end goal of the law. While this ban may stir an uproar and defense from some schools, the White House already warned that there will be punishment. This punishment will include cutting off funding from schools that may choose not to comply.
