Jacob Chansley, widely recognized as the “QAnon Shaman” for his distinctive attire during the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, has been granted a presidential pardon by President Donald Trump. Following his release from prison, Chansley announced his intention to purchase firearms to commemorate the clemency, the NY Post reports.
Chansley, 33, was convicted of obstructing an official proceeding and sentenced to 41 months in prison. He was part of the group of at least 1,500 rioters pardoned by President Trump. He served over two years, including 11 months in solitary confinement, before being released early. During his incarceration, Chansley was diagnosed with various mental health issues.
Upon receiving the pardon, Chansley expressed his plans to purchase firearms, stating, “I’m going to buy some mothaf*ckin’ guns.”
Legal experts have noted that while the pardon restores Chansley’s rights, including the right to bear arms, his prior conviction may still pose challenges in certain jurisdictions. Federal law prohibits individuals convicted of felonies from possessing firearms, but the impact of a presidential pardon on this prohibition can vary.
Chansley’s post-prison plans also include traveling across the country and engaging in public speaking. He has expressed a desire to share his experiences and advocate for mental health awareness.
