A 27-year-old Qatari camel herder, Nasser Al-Gherainiq, was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman. The incident happened at the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, South West London, as reported by The Sun.

The incident occurred in August 2023 while Al-Gherainiq was in the UK receiving treatment for a rare heart condition. He admitted to sexual assault and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. Nasser was also convicted of two counts of attempted rape, and will face deportation upon release.

The assault took place when Al-Gherainiq lured the victim into a hospital toilet cubicle. His defense lawyer, Jane Bickerstaff KC, argued at Southwark Crown Court that his limited interaction with women in Qatar, where he had never left until July 2023, contributed to his actions.

She claimed his rural desert upbringing left him unfamiliar with modern societal norms, likening his behavior to that of an “immature adolescent.” However, Judge Adam Hiddleston rejected this, stating Nasser Al-Gherainiq was fully aware his actions violated the victim’s wishes.

In a victim impact statement, the woman described feeling “frozen with fear” during the attack, which lasted about five minutes but felt much longer. She has since struggled with anxiety, isolation, and a loss of confidence, which has impacted her life. The court emphasized that cultural differences did not excuse his actions.
