A popular YouTube personality who happens to be quadriplegic has found himself in legal trouble. Bryant Amastha, known as El Valien-T on YouTube, has been charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, reports the Daily Mail.
The incident involved Amastha striking a Miami cop with his wheelchair and allegedly spitting at her. However, Amastha firmly denies these allegations and has provided a different account of what transpired. When asked if he did it, Amastha told Local 10 News,
“I absolutely did not.”
The incident took place at Amastha’s residence in the Quail Heights area of southwest Miami-Dade on Wednesday, during a heated argument with his mother. As stated in the police report, Amastha became increasingly agitated when his mother was arrested.
“The officer, she bumped my wheelchair because I was standing in the driveway, and the driveway is thin,”
Amastha said.
“I suffer from acid reflux, so I normally spit. And I spat in a totally different direction,”
Amastha said regarding the spitting incident. He said that the officers injured him during his arrest when they handcuffed him and forcefully put him in a squad car.
“They manhandled me,”
Amastha told the outlet.
“They tried to cuff me with my hands behind my back, which I can’t do.”
Despite probable cause, the judge released Amastha on his own recognizance, deeming him not a flight risk. The judge also ordered him to avoid contact with the officer involved. Amastha, a popular Colombian artist and producer,
has a large social media following and shares music videos on YouTube.
