Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, was again linked to a second murder-for-hire plot this week. The embattled singer is currently being held for the attempted murder of rapper Quando Rondo. He was charged with the attempt, which led to Rondo’s cousin’s death. In the meantime, Durk has not been charged with Mack’s death yet.
Lil Durk Indicted for Second Murder-for-Hire Plot
Federal investigators brought new charges against Lil Durk for a second murder-for-hire shooting. The indictment, revealed in newly unsealed court documents, exposed the rapper’s role in the murder of Stephon Mack. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his head and chest on Jan. 7, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second victim, a 40-year-old security guard, also sustained injuries but survived the shooting incident. Mack was murdered outside the Youth Peace Center of Roseland.
Federal prosecutors believe Lil Durk murdered Stephon Mack as revenge for his brother DThang’s death. The performer, born Dontay Banks, 32, was killed outside of Club O, a strip club in Suburban Harvey, on June 6, 2021. He was caught in an exchange of gunfire. Multiple shots were fired in the club during the commotion, and a policeman was also shot in the thigh. Banks died after being hit on the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lil-Durk’s Murder-for-hire Plot Accomplices Charged
Two men, Anthony Montgomery-Wilson and Preston Powell, were indicted for Mack’s murder by a grand jury a year ago. The men got out of their car when Mack came out of the center and shot him multiple times. They were charged with conspiracy to use an interstate facility to commit murder-for-hire. The FBI linked Lil Durk to the two men and ascertained he committed murder-for-hire using texts, reliable informants, social media posts and phone metadata.
Photos from the prosecutors’ office revealed that Montgomery-Wilson pursued Mack with a gun while his partner shot the security guard. Powell went into hiding after the incident, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Montgomery-Wilson has been charged, but he pleaded not guilty during his first hearing.
Lil-Durk Planned a First Murder-for-Hire Plot
Lil Durk, whose first murder-for-hire plot against rapper Quando Rondo failed, has been denied bail. The Grammy winner paid five associates of his OTF (Only The Family) label to kill Rondo in retaliation for a label member, King Von’s death. Rondo’s friend shot Von multiple times when the latter was engaged in an altercation with Rondo outside of the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.
Lil Durk placed a bounty on Rondo, and the attempt was carried out on his life on Aug. 18, 2022. Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire plot against Rondo failed, but Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, died instead. Durk tried to flee the country but was caught in Miami before he could board his flight. He pleaded not guilty, but a judge denied his bail appeal and $3 million bond proposal after his link to Stephon Mack’s murder-for-hire plot was revealed.
Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire plot has affected his legacy, although the US attorney’s office has asked the public to consider that he is innocent until proven guilty. Hopefully, everyone involved will get justice.
