According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD), Raymundo Juan Reyes Cornelio was taken into custody on April 11 and charged with child rape. The investigation began after the young girl gave birth to a baby boy on February 14. She was only 11 years old at the time.

Police say the girl disclosed that she had a single sexual encounter in May 2024 with a man she met through Facebook. Based on the information she provided, detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s Facebook account, which revealed Cornelio’s identity and phone number.

Further investigation found that Cornelio had been previously stopped on March 1 for a window tint violation and cited for driving without a license. That citation listed a Davidson County address, helping authorities locate him.

During questioning, Raymundo Juan Reyes Cornelio admitted to the encounter and said he thought the girl was 14 years old. At the time, he was 18. Cornelio is currently being held at the Downtown Detention Center, with bond set at $75,000.

Per PEOPLE, the MNPD has not released further details, and efforts to contact them for additional comments were not immediately successful.
