A tragic incident occurred at Disneyland when a staff member lost her life while on duty. The incident occurred in the backstage area of the Southern California theme park. The employee was thrown off a malfunctioning golf cart that was being driven
“recklessly,”
as reported by the NY Post.
The victim, Bonnye Mavis Lear, who worked as an administrator at Club 33, suffered severe head injuries around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she sadly passed away two days later. The details of the accident are still limited, but according to Lear’s colleagues, she was thrown off the cart when the driver carelessly hit a bump in the road.
Lear was seated in the rear-facing seat of a brand new cart, traveling at a speed of 20 mph behind Critter County, an area of the park that was temporarily closed. This information was shared by Rae Delgado, a cast member at Disney California Adventure, on Facebook.
“She went to grab the handrail, it gave way and sent her out of the vehicle. We do not know if the passengers were aware that she had fallen out,”
Delgado wrote.
Lear endured a serious head injury and a fractured skull that could not be resolved through surgery, according to Delgado. In addition, the Disneyland employee claimed that the managers at the Anaheim resort instructed the cast members to remain silent about the details surrounding Lear’s passing.
Lear had worked at Disneyland for 24 years, most recently in membership support services at Club 33.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,”
Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock said in a statement.
