Having Jungle Fever almost cost one Black cop jail time!
Anthony Williams, a 63-year-old retired Black police officer, and his wife, Katsiaryna Shasholka, have filed a federal lawsuit against #AmericanAirlines, alleging racial profiling and false imprisonment during their honeymoon flight.
In September 2022, Williams and Shasholka, who is white, were traveling from Phoenix to Miami on American Airlines Flight 2408. During the flight, a fellow passenger reported suspicions that Shasholka was being trafficked, Law & Crime reports.
Without conducting an investigation, flight attendants Michael Wilfong and Angel Rodriguez notified law enforcement.
Upon landing at #Miami International Airport, the couple was escorted off the plane by American Airlines employees and detained by Miami-Dade Police officers. They were questioned and later released after officers confirmed their marital status.
The lawsuit claims the couple suffered “mental pain and suffering, sleeplessness, paranoia, panic attacks, fear, anxiety, [and] embarrassment.”
American Airlines has acknowledged the lawsuit, stating, “American strives to provide a positive experience to everyone who travels with us. We are reviewing the allegations of the complaint.”
Williams and Shasholka are seeking damages exceeding $75,000, excluding interests and costs.
Side note: How does a cop get pulled over on a darn plane! 🤦🏾♀️
