The Real Housewives of Potomac (RHOP) star Ashley Darby, 36, has finally filed for divorce from her husband, Michael, 65. The details of the filing were revealed in court documents. Ashley Darby’s divorce filing comes over two years after the reality TV star and the Australian businessman separated. The former couple has agreed that their split is amicable and plans to remain cordial despite their separation.
Ashley Darby’s Divorce Filed
RHOP star Ashley Darby has finally moved to make her divorce final. The pageant queen filed officially for divorce from her husband, Michael, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024. Ashley Darby’s divorce move comes two years after the couple’s separation. They were married for eight years before deciding to call it quits, as Ashley announced their separation in April 2022. Meanwhile, the reality TV star and her businessman husband have reached an “amicable and fair settlement” thanks to a prenup.
Ashley and Michael will also share custody of their two sons, Dean and Dylan. Before filing for divorce, the duo were trying to navigate co-parenting. In one interview, Ashley noted that she thought a more suitable term for their situation was “parallel parenting.”
“So we’re parallel parenting and thankfully, both of us are very involved in the children’s life. They don’t see any difference,” she told People. “All they know is that they have two houses and they get to have double the toys. So that’s been good.”
Ashley Darby’s Divorce Stalled Due to her Reluctance
Ashley Darby’s divorce has always been a hot topic on RHOP. She had stalled on filing for it for over two years despite promising to do it on the show frequently. However, she provided more insight at BravoCon 2023, saying:
“I don’t know what this is. As I mentioned, I did this meditation retreat, and one of the things that I meditated on was what is my issue? What is it? So I’ve decided I’m going to talk to my lawyer and really try to get it going.”
The mom of two confessed that she was “complacent” about filing for divorce because of some marital benefits. Ashley admitted that her hanging on did not provide emotional benefits, but it did provide professional and financial ones that she and Michael enjoyed. However, she acknowledged that they would have to make their divorce official regardless. Ashley also confessed on the Virtual Reali-Tea podcast that her separation from Michael made her depressed, and she only survived thanks to her therapist and friends.
Ashley and Michael Separated Due to Differences
The TV personality discussed her separation from Michael on Bravo’s The Daily Dish earlier. She noted that the public would likely assume that reality TV, their age gap, and cultural differences contributed to their separation. However, she revealed that while those things may have contributed to it, their separation was due to them being in “very different stages in our lives,” and they had “different goals.” She disclosed that they both wanted to be happy and fulfilled but could not do it together.
Ashley Darby’s divorce comes after she tried to date and find love again. Hopefully, this will give her closure and allow her to find true love. Thankfully, she and Michael have also worked out how to care for their sons.
