A pastor in Missouri Ozarks, Matthew Dedmon, was convicted for killing his wife’s lover with more than two bullet wounds. But for the first time since his guilty verdict, the disgraced clergyman has been slapped with a bail bond. On May 28, 2022, the 49-year-old pastor in Missouri Ozarks trailed his wife to 107 W. Church Street.

Matthew Dedmon, A Pastor in Missouri Ozark, Faces Murder Charge After Shooting Wife’s Lover

According to Ozarks First, witnesses claimed the pastor wanted to speak to his wife. He had suspected that she was being unfaithful with Joe Newburn, 57. However, Dedmon needed a more satisfying answer other than mere suspicions. On that fateful day in May, he ended up with an absolute answer after spotting the pair together. They were in a vehicle parked outside Iguana Roja Restaurante.

Upon noticing Newburn with his wife, the enraged pastor got out of his truck with a gun in hand. He then walked up to the passenger’s seat of the car where he shot at the lover firing him multiple times on the chest. Although the victim was immediately moved to the Cox South Hospital, he died the next day. Meanwhile, investigators say that after the crime, Dedmon returned the fired weapon to his truck.

He was since charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Since then, the pastor has been held in prison and denied bail. When his bond was contested in September 2022, the judge denied it. Judge Laura Johnson cited the evidence, claiming the Ozarks pastor was a danger to society. Yet, Dedmon’s attorneys continued to demand a bail bond. They maintained that the state’s inaction regarding a bond was a violation of the defense rights. After two years a judge finally set a $30,000 bail bond for the accused. However, this comes with other restrictions. The Heritage Baptist preacher must be under house arrest while he wears a GPS monitor.
