Pete & Gerry’s Organics have recorded a loss of 100,000 eggs. This comes on the heels of the egg inflation and shortage that continues to worry the entire nation. However, the authorities are hands-on— as they are committed to finding the thief.

Over the weekend, the Pennsylvania State Police Department recorded a case of missing eggs in the Antrim Township Borough of Greencastle. Upon arrival, they discovered that an unknown person had carted away 100,000 eggs.

The egg thief invaded the Pete & Gerry Organic trailer, and police say they ran off with eggs worth $40,000. Following an interview with USA TODAY reporters, the state police have announced their commitment to solving the case.

The authorities have asked the general public for help. They have provided a number linked to the Chambersburg Bureau. Pete & Gerry’s Organics is not the only one affected by the egg shortage.

According to reports published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics before the end of last year, the prices of eggs skyrocketed due to national shortages. When compared to the average price of eggs purchased in 2023, the body explained that it was double the cost.

As to why egg prices continue to skyrocket while there is a shortage, the USDA links it to bird flu, a disease affecting birds. Since the outbreak of this virus, sources say that different bird farms and states have been affected in the U.S.

The department is urging anyone with information regarding the theft to call its Chambersburg bureau at 717-264-5161.
