On Monday, the South Carolina Department of Social Services announced that Dennis Lee Phillips Jr., 42, and Jennifer Nichole Phillips, 44, face charges for fraudulently obtaining over $10,000 in SNAP benefits.

Each is charged with one count of fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps, totaling $20,369 in illicitly received benefits. WJCL reports that Dennis Phillips, from Beaufort, and Jennifer Phillips, from Port Royal, were arrested on March 31.

According to arrest warrants, Dennis misrepresented information on his SNAP application, omitting Jennifer’s income. The couple allegedly concealed this income to secure benefits from 2018 to 2022.

Jennifer is accused of assisting Dennis in the fraudulent scheme. The 14th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
