On November 21, a promising young man, Antonio Pascual Mateo, in Southern California got electrocuted. Authorities confirmed that the man was putting up the Christmas light on the roof of his home when the tragic incident occurred around 10:48 am.
In a bid to beautify his home, he threw a cable over a power line. But it was a power line with high voltage, leading to an electric shock. The 24-year-old’s body was immediately flung into a tree where he was found hanging upside down. As soon as the first responders appeared, they brought him down to perform advanced cardiovascular life support.
According to the medical examiner’s office, Mateo died about an hour after his body was recovered. The Escondido resident was confirmed dead in Palomar Medical Center. An autopsy report disclosed that it was due to high-voltage electrocution.
The town’s Battalion Chief spoke with Fox 5 San Diego about the incident. The chief solidified the coroner’s claims. He added that the man was suspended in the air after coming in contact with high-power tension lines.
Following the unsavory event, Mateo’s family hoped to bury him in his native country. They have created a GoFundMe page seeking funds to fly him to Guatemala, and so far, the page boasts $10,000.
Via the funding page, the family explained how he died. They shared that Mateo was stuck on the line for an hour. But when he was eventually found, the rescue team waited for the power company to shut down power. His family added that they will remember him as their “forever young” son.
