On Tuesday, a 30-year-old woman, Jendaya Kashar Brennan, was charged with attacking a flight attendant on a Southwest Airlines flight, causing it to divert, per the Business Insider. The woman also tried to open the emergency exit midair. The incident occurred on May 22 during Southwest Flight 3239 from Nashville to Phoenix.
Flightradar24 data indicated that the plan diverted to Oklahoma City during its usual three-hour flight. Crew informed the FBI that Brennan, seated in the last row, demanded to leave and attempted to open the rear exit door. Passengers were asked to aid in restraining her after she dismissed the crew’s requests.
According to the affidavit, unnamed flight attendants attempted to restrain the woman while she kicked and spat at them. She also tried to pull a flight attendant by their lanyard. Two retired correctional officers held her down to assist flight attendants. The captain diverted the flight to protect everyone. Brennan currently faces serious charges, possibly leading to 20 years behind bars and a hefty “fine of up to $250,000.”
