A 36-year-old woman from the St. Louis area, who was vacationing in Puerto Rico, has been accused of vandalizing and burning down several family-owned businesses, per Fox 2 Now. Federal investigators claim her actions were motivated after she was denied an alcoholic beverage.

Danielle Bertothy, a resident of St. Peters, was captured on surveillance footage carrying a gasoline container and setting fire to a bar, restaurant, store, and hotel shortly after midnight on January 2, putting the lives of 20 guests at risk. Following her police interview, Bertothy abruptly ended her vacation and left the island. She was subsequently arrested in St. Louis on Thursday.

Puerto Ricans in St. Louis are upset and outraged by Bertothy’s actions. Hector Vega from the Puerto Rican Society of St. Louis expressed,

“We all have drinks, but I don’t know. I never had thoughts of, after drinks, going to do something like this.”

The society has been advocating for her arrest and has been in contact with the owners of the affected businesses in Puerto Rico.
