Stephen A Smith Wonders Why A Married Serena Williams Trolled Drake At The Super Bowl Halftime Show

Stephen A Smith doesn’t understand why Serena Williams bothered to troll Drake during the Super Bowl halftime show despite being a married woman. The tennis champion and the rapper dated on and off between 2011 and 2015 before their romance ended sourly. Since then, Drake has sent shots against Williams and her husband. However, Smith didn’t think Williams’s dance was necessary and said he would divorce her if she was married to him.

Stephen A Smith Wants To Divorce Serena Williams

While Serena Williams’ crip dance at the Super Bowl Halftime show won hearts on Sunday night, one person remained unimpressed. Stephen A Smith expressed his disappointment at the sportswoman dancing her heart out during the highly anticipated sports night and wondered why she bothered to do so. Smith said on his First Take podcast on Monday, February 10, that if Williams was his wife, he would have divorced her after her performance.

The ESPN analyst claimed it was a poor look for a woman to diss her ex as it showed she was not over him.

“You could say give her props. If I’m your husband, why are you up there trolling your ex?’ Smith asked. If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass, ’cause clearly you don’t belong with me. What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.”

Serena Willaims Once Dated Drake

Serena Williams gave many a pleasant surprise when she appeared on the field alongside Kendrick Lamar during his Super Bowl Halftime show. The 43-year-old tennis player came out when Lamar started performing his Not Like Us Drake diss track. Many immediately assumed she was getting back at Drake, whom she dated for a while. The two didn’t part on good terms and since she got married to Alexis Ohanian in 2017, Reddit co-founder, the rapper has not missed any opportunities to troll the couple.

In 2022, he name-dropped Ohanian in his Middle of the Ocean song and called him a “groupie.” Hence, Smith felt Williams was trying to get back at him by performing with his arch-enemy and to his diss track. Meanwhile, Smith’s fellow analyst, Ryan Clark, humorously defended Williams, saying, “If you’re with Serena Williams you’re going to be a kept man anyway.” However, former NFL star Shannon Sharpe pointed out that Ohanian was also a made man, and he is worth an estimated $150 million.

Serena Williams Explains Reason For Super Bowl Halftime Show Dance

Stephen A Smith’s remarks were premised on the notion that Serena Williams danced at Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime show to get back at Drake. However, Williams revealed on Instagram that her dance had nothing to do with unresolved tensions with her ex. She said she danced to the Not Like Us diss track as a nod to her historic 2012 dance at the Olympics. The Compton native received heavy backlash for doing the crip walk while celebrating her 2012 Olympics victory.

Williams said of her performance at Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime show:

“When @kendricklamar and team called and was like ‘we’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your crip walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal.’ ‘I’m like Super Bowl? Are you serious? When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a superbowl? (Never) let’s do it!” She added, “I knew my winning dance after the @olympics would pay off one day. End of story.”

Meanwhile, Serena Williams’s Super Bowl Halftime show has continued to garner worldwide acclaim and praise for the talented professional tennis player. She and her husband also remain unbothered by a few negative comments. Hopefully, she will continue to have fun and be her authentic self.
