Miami Springs police confirmed that Tyrone Armbrister, 30, surrendered on Sunday after being identified in surveillance footage attempting to sexually assault a smoke shop employee.

The incident occurred on November 9 at the Red Eye Smoke Shop, where Armbrister allegedly grabbed 20-year-old Ahiline Campos, dragged her into a back room, and assaulted her, NBC, Miami reports.

Campos bravely defended herself, using a toilet plunger and falsely claiming she had activated an emergency button, forcing Armbrister to flee.

Upon surrendering, Armbrister admitted guilt and issued an apology: “My sincere apology. I hope she’s OK,” he said, blaming impaired judgment on a spiked drink. Police revealed that Armbrister had shaved his beard and cut his hair to evade capture but was still wearing the same boxer shorts from the attack.

Armbrister now faces charges of attempted sexual battery, false imprisonment, and burglary. He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as the investigation continues.

Authorities credit publicizing the surveillance footage with pressuring Armbrister to turn himself in.
