2 Minors Charged After Reportedly Dumping Acid On Playground Slides, Injured Multiple Children

Two unnamed minors were charged after officials discovered that multiple slides in Massachusetts contained acid leading to the injury of four children, according to Anthony Gulluni, the Hampden District Attorney, reports Fox

    The minors were charged with

“four counts of assault and battery on a child with injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as vandalism,”

    reports the news outlet.

On Thursday, Gulluni announced in a statement,

“Our collective effort to charge those we believe are responsible should make clear that protecting this community’s children is among our highest priorities.”

    He continued,

“Whether the threat and harm caused were intended as pranks or malicious acts, it will not be tolerated.”

Back in June, firefighters responded to a park following a report of an unidentified substance on the playground. During that timeframe, officials also went to a home close by following a report of children who suffered from burns. According to Fox, the children had just left the park.

The mother, Ashley Thielen, told Western Mass News,

“I let the kids go play. I didn’t notice that there was liquid to collect at the bottom of the slide. I just assumed it was rainwater… I didn’t really think much of it, and then, my baby, who is 1, just started crying. That was when I knew this liquid that they were around wasn’t water.”

The substance left the children with blisters and swelling; however, their mother pointed out that it could’ve been even worse.

Officials learned that an unknown individual stole muriatic acid after breaking into the park’s storage room, which was later distributed on three slides.

12-Year-Old Facing Criminal Charges For Allegedly Throwing Acid On 11-Year-Old Girl At A Playground

A 12-year-old girl in Detroit is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old girl at a playground with a chemical substance, officials said per CNN

11-year-old Deaira Summers suffered second and third-degree burns on her back, legs, and arms in the attack, her mother, Dominique Summers told CNN. The incident occurred July 9th while at the playground with her cousins. Summers was caught in the middle of a confrontation between the 12-year-old and one of her family members.

“I feel like it was the most evil thing you could do to a kid and especially the fact that she was an innocent bystander,”

Deaira’s mother told CNN affiliate WXYZ.

“I hope she gets what she deserves, and they all get what they deserve,”

Deaira told the outlet, saying she wants everyone involved to be held accountable.

The 12-year-old has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. She is being held on a $10,000 bond and is due in court on Tuesday.

“It takes maybe two hours what used to be 20 minutes getting dressed,”

Summers said about her daughter’s condition following the attack.

“It takes about two hours to give her her medicine. I have to give her medication 30 minutes before she takes a bath,”

    she told WXYZ.

  • Two Children Suffered Burn Injuries After Acid Was Poured Onto 3 Slides At A Massachusetts Playground

Two Children Suffered Burn Injuries After Acid Was Poured Onto 3 Slides At A Massachusetts Playground

Two children endured burn injuries at a Massachusetts playground after a hazardous chemical was poured down three slides, per Insider

Emergency dispatchers were called to two residential addresses on reports of two children suffering from burns. According to one of the mothers,

“There was a ‘sizeable puddle’ at the bottom of the slide,”

she wrote in a public Facebook group. Initially, she believed it was just rainwater but after her toddler came down the slide,

“she started crying and saying, ‘Mommy, it hurts, it hurts,’”

    she told WBZ News.

Officials identified the substance on the playground as muriatic acid, also called hydrochloric acid,

“a colorless, corrosive, nonflammable gas that fumes in the air”

    and can cause

“severe chemical burn, blindness, and respiratory irritation,”

the CDC reports. Longmeadow firefighters and police were notified about a

    “suspicious substance”

on the playground on Sunday morning. They have since removed and sterilized the playground of any chemical elements, but have kept the park closed as of Monday, according to a press release.

Investigators revealed that someone had broken into the pump room in the basement of a pool building, which is where the acid had come from. Investigators also discovered an open ventilation shaft. They said the suspect had to climb over two fences before entering the ventilation shaft.

“A great deal of effort was employed to enter this space,”

the fire department said. A suspect has not been detained as of yet. Police urge anyone with information to contact the detective bureau.
