Woman Files Lawsuit Against Ritz-Carlton, Claiming She Unknowingly Consumed ‘Semen-Contaminated’ Water During Hotel Stay

A couple is claiming that their stay at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay turned into a nightmare when the woman unknowingly drank water contaminated with semen, reports Insider

The incident allegedly occurred last November and the lawsuit was recently filed in October, reported by the Mercury News. The victims, identified as John and Jane Doe, checked into the California hotel for a four-night stay.

According to the lawsuit, the couple ordered water bottles from the front desk after dinner. Jane Doe placed one on her bedside table and consumed it later that night.

“She opened it, took a drink, and knew immediately that something was wrong with the liquid she had just swallowed,”

the lawsuit states. The water was returned to the hotel security and management representatives who were asked, by the husband, to contact authorities.

“The Ritz-Carlton subsequently sent the water bottle to a laboratory for analysis, and the testing confirmed that the water contained semen,”

    the lawsuit says.

The suit claims that the Ritz-Carlton refuses to give the water or the test results to law enforcement and

“will not disclose the identities of the hotel employees on duty that day so that their backgrounds and criminal histories can be scrutinized.”

The couple is seeking a jury trial, alleging sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and loss of consortium.

  • California Mom Becomes Quadruple Amputee After Consuming Contaminated Tilapia, ‘She Almost Lost Her Life’

California Mom Becomes Quadruple Amputee After Consuming Contaminated Tilapia, ‘She Almost Lost Her Life’

A California mother underwent life-changing surgery to have all four of her limbs amputated after she consumed contaminated tilapia, which reportedly contained a deadly bacteria, per the NY Post

Laura Barajas, 40, had been hospitalized for several months before the surgery. According to her friend, Anna Messina, Laura who is a mother to a 6-year-old son, had purchased fish from a San Jose market and prepared it at home, she told KRON. However, just a few days later, Laura fell ill.

“It’s just been really heavy on all of us. It’s terrible. This could’ve happened to any of us,”

    said Messina.

“They put her into a medically induced coma. Her fingers were black, her feet were black her bottom lip was black. She had complete sepsis and her kidneys were failing,”

she added. According to Messina, Barajas contracted Vibrio vulnificus, a potentially deadly bacterium commonly found in raw seafood and seawater. As Onsite previously reported, a man from Texas was recently infected by the deadly flesh-eating bacterium after consuming oysters and unfortunately passed away.

“The ways you can get infected with this bacteria are, one, you can eat something that’s contaminated with it [and] the other way is by having a cut or tattoo exposed to water in which this bug lives,”

UCSF Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Natasha Spottiswoode told KRON.

She mentioned that this infection is particularly concerning for individuals with compromised immune systems. The CDC reports an estimated 150 to 200 cases of Vibrio vulnificus annually, with approximately one in five of those affected succumbing to the disease.

Messina has since started a GoFundMe to aid the Barajas family in covering medical expenses and help with any necessary adjustments Laura will need. As of Sunday morning, over $39,000 has been successfully raised through this campaign.

“Little did she know that this simple act would change her life forever,”

    the fundraiser said.

“Laura has been in the hospital for over a month, fighting for her life, she is now a quadruple amputee.”

  • Dr. Berne’s Eye Drops Recalled Due to Bacterial Contamination

Dr. Berne’s Eye Drops Recalled Due to Bacterial Contamination

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of Dr. Berne’s MSM Drops 5% Solution and Dr. Berne’s MSM Eye Drops – Eye Repair. The recall was issued after it was discovered that the eye drops may be contaminated with bacteria. The affected eye drops were distributed nationwide and were sold online and in retail stores. The FDA is urging consumers who have the affected eye drops to stop using them and to return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

The bacteria that was found in the eye drops is called Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This bacteria can cause eye infections, which can lead to serious health problems, including blindness. There have been no reports of any injuries or illnesses associated with the use of the affected eye drops. However, the FDA is issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution.

If you have any questions about the recall, you can contact the FDA’s Consumer Complaint Coordinator at 1-888-463-6332.  The recall is a reminder of the importance of using eye drops that have been properly sterilized. It is also important to follow the directions on the eye drop label carefully. If you experience any eye pain, redness, or swelling after using eye drops, you should stop using them and see a doctor immediately.
