Woman Who Pepper Sprayed A Muslim Uber Driver For No Reason Charged With Hate Crime

A young woman was indicted for a hate crime after she pepper-sprayed a Muslim Uber driver in Manhattan during the summer, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said, per NY Post

Jennifer Guilbeault, 23, was charged in New York State Supreme Court with two counts of assault as a hate crime and aggravated harassment for the unprovoked attack, which happened without on July 31. The incident took place near Lexington Avenue and East 66th Street, as stated by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

The driver, Shohel Mahmud, later said that Guilbeault attacked him because of his skin color.

“Her friend, she is yelling, ‘Jen, Jen, what the f–k, what are you doing? What’s going on?’”

Mahmud told The Post days after the attack.

“Her friend is asking ‘Why did you do that?’ And she say, ‘He’s brown.’”

Guilbeault was sitting in the backseat with another woman around 12:15 a.m. when she suddenly sprayed the harmful substance in the 45-year-old driver’s eyes, as shown in videos shared on social media. The driver, Mahmud, said he hadn’t talked to the women when he picked them up in Midtown. Bragg mentioned that Guilbeault attacked the driver when he started praying in Arabic as they approached a red light.

At the time Mahmud believed the women were trying to rob him and jumped out of the car. When the car started moving slowly without him, he got back inside, and Guilbeault sprayed him again. Police arrested Guilbeault at the scene but initially only gave her a ticket. Her lawyer argued that the incident shouldn’t be considered a hate crime.

“Ms. Guilbeault was not motivated by race, religion, national origin, or any other discriminatory factor,”

Michael J. Alber said in a statement. Her next court date is scheduled for January 13.

The altercation began when the pizzeria worker told Watson to stop bringing his dog inside without a leash, which escalated to a shouting match between the two. • NYC Driver Crashes U-Haul Van After Finding Live Snake Under His Seat, ‘I Freaked Out’

NYC Driver Crashes U-Haul Van After Finding Live Snake Under His Seat, ‘I Freaked Out’

A New York resident crashed a U-Haul van in Manhattan after finding a live snake under his seat, per the NY Post. Jared was on his way back to his apartment in Brooklyn with his roommate after purchasing a sofa from Facebook Marketplace when he suddenly spotted the reptile.

Initially mistaking the snake for a large

    “toy,”

Jared reached down to pick it up and realized it was alive.

“Maybe someone left their toy snake in the car? So I reached down to pick it up, like what’s this?”

    Jared told the outlet.

“It was warm and heavy. Then it turned its head and looked at me,”

    he added.

Frightened by their discovery, Jared and his roommate panicked and started yelling,

    “Oh, f–k,”

    he said.

“There wasn’t a lot of coherent thought at this point. I hate snakes. I freaked out. I took my foot off the brake and crashed into the car in front of us,”

    Jared said.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Canal Street and Broadway.

“I put the car in park, and we had our feet up on the seat. At first, I thought to chuck it out of the window, to get it out of the car, but then I realized we were in Manhattan, there is nowhere for me to really put it. There are pedestrians everywhere,”

    he recalled.

At first two female officers arrived at the scene but

“didn’t want anything to do with”

the snake, Jared said. Animal control officers were called to the scene and they had to search the van in order to locate the snake. After locating the reptile, they placed it in a large, white bag before removing it from the vehicle.

“U-Hauls are used for many things. I would have no clue how the snake got there. Obviously, I’m surprised,”

a U-Haul employee told The Post.

  • New York City Urologist Found Guilty Of Sexual Misconduct, Including The Inappropriate Use Of Sex Toys On Patients

New York City Urologist Found Guilty Of Sexual Misconduct, Including The Inappropriate Use Of Sex Toys On Patients

A urologist in Manhattan, Darius Paduch, was found guilty on all 13 counts of sexually assaulting his patients, reports NY Post. The victims included six boys, and the abuse took place from 2015 to 2019. Paduch, who worked at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and Northwell Health, would abuse his patients during private consultations. He would instruct them to masturbate or do it himself, use sex toys, and perform unnecessary rectal exams without gloves.

“As a unanimous jury has just found, Darius A. Paduch leveraged his position of trust as a medical doctor for his own perverse gratification,”

Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.

“For years, patients seeking needed medical care, many of them children, left his office as victims.”

Darius Paduch is being sued by over 130 former patients for alleged sexual abuse and unnecessary medical procedures conducted without anesthesia.

“For nearly twenty years, patients who trusted him for their medical care and treatment were instead brutalized by his degrading, sexually violating, and medically unfounded acts while the hospitals where he worked looked the other way,”

Mallory Allen, a lawyer representing his victims said in a statement.

“The jury verdict in the criminal case affirms that these heinous acts will not be overlooked, and the pending civil cases will ensure that the institutions who repeatedly prioritized profits over their patients will face consequences for their indifference in ignoring years of complaints,”

    the statement concluded.

Darius Paduch, who has been in jail since his arrest in April 2023, could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison for inducing minors to travel for unlawful sexual activity and other related crimes.

  • Florida Woman Accused Of Defrauding 87-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Of Almost $3 Million

Florida Woman Accused Of Defrauding 87-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Of Almost $3 Million

On Wednesday, January 25th, a Florida woman was arrested for allegedly defrauding an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor, The Guardian reported. “Today, we allege the defendant callously preyed on a senior citizen simply seeking companionship, defrauding him of his life savings,” said FBI assistant director Michael J Driscoll on the day of the arrest.

The accused, Peaches Stergo, met the victim on a dating website in 2014, posing as a woman named “Alice Watson.” In 2017, the 38-year-old told the unnamed elderly man that she had won a lawsuit from a car accident she was in, and needed money to pay her lawyer in order to receive the settlement funds. Despite her never being a part of a suit, he wrote her a check of $25,000. Later, she told the victim that if she wasn’t given more money, the bank would freeze her account and prevent her from paying him back. She even disguised her voice to pose as a bank employee to facilitate the ruse.

Within five years, Stergo received 62 checks totaling $2.8 million. The accused reportedly used the money to pay for several homes, cars, designer clothing, international trips, name brand clothing, jewelry, and gold and silver bars. While she and her husband were embracing a luxurious lifestyle, her victim lost his life savings and was forced to move out of his Manhattan home.

Peaches Stergo has since been charged with one count of wire fraud. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
