On Sunday, Taylor Swift was in New Orleans to watch the Super Bowl and support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce’s team, The Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were gunning for their third consecutive win for the Lombardi Trophy against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the musician who attended last year’s game found the 2025 Super Bowl a bit confusing when a large part of the audience reacted to her presence with opposition.
Although Taylor Swift was not the only celebrity at the event, she was the only one who got booed when she was shown on the jumbotron for the first time. The singer appeared shocked at the response but was gracious in her reaction. With a visibly stunned face, she turned to her friend, Ice Spice, and asked, “Aww, what, what’s going on? The booing incident would mark the night of defeat for Kelce and Swift as the Chiefs suffered a crushing defeat by the Eagles, who won 40-22.

Thankfully, Taylor Swift has had many people come to her defense after getting booed by the audience. Many fans and celebrities, including Serena Williams and Flavor Flav, discussed the incident online and defended the singer. Williams, who joined Kendrick Lamar during his performance at halftime for a brief cameo, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, wrote:
“I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those booo!!”
Flav also jumped the horde of Swifties to proclaim that Swift was still a queen in her own right. The rapper, a self-proclaimed “King Swiftie,” suggested that the opposing team’s fans masterminded the situation.
“Eagles fans will boo anyone,,, remember when they booed and attacked Santa Claus,??? SANTA CLAUS!!!” he wrote, referencing the 1968 incident where Philadelphia football fans pelted the Christmas parade star with snowballs.
Fans Explain Why Taylor Swift Was Booed
There have been different theories about why Taylor Swift got booed at the Super Bowl. However, the two popular reasons revolve around the sides she supported. A fan posited that supporters of Donald Trump booed the singer, a theory the President also shared. Trump, who was also at the stadium on Sunday, wrote on Truth Social:
“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
However, some think the reason is different. They explained that Taylor Swift got booed because she supported the Chiefs against the Philadephia Eagles. Swift was an Eagles fan before she started dating Kelce and switched to supporting the Kansas City Chiefs. The Philly native was vocal about her love for the Eagles before her romance with Kelce. She even name-dropped them in her song, Gold Rush. She also wore their merch several times. Therefore, it is possible that Eagles fans felt betrayed by her shift of allegiance.
