A teacher in Tennessee was found dead in his classroom at Munford High School on Thursday morning, per The Post. Samuel Colin Day, 60, reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which has left the close-knit community in disbelief.

Day’s body was located around 6 a.m., before students arrived for the day. The Munford Police Department was called to the school for an “emergency” and found the 60-year-old deceased. Officials later confirmed that Day’s death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, students, and faculty affected by this heartbreaking event,” police said in a statement.

“We ask that the community respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” added the statement.

Classes were canceled on Thursday to give police time to investigate. Day held the position of Special Education Director at the school. He lived in Atoka with his wife and son. It is still not known if authorities located a suicide note.
