A 16-year-old boy, Ted Warne-Harvey, narrowly escaped death after being electrocuted while fleeing a gang armed with hammers and metal poles, a court heard.

He was running for his life near Westgate-on-Sea railway station in Kent on September 26, 2021, when he tripped and fell onto a live rail. His body began “smoking” from the electric shock as his attackers continued their assault.

According to Daily Mail, CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment when one of the assailants struck him with a hammer just before he collapsed onto the tracks. The violent mob, some as young as 15, left him injured before fleeing. A brave bystander intervened, pulling him to safety.

Two attackers, Kaya Barratt and Harvey Kara, were convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent. Two others, Declan Stewart and James Odero, were later found guilty of involvement in the attack.

Ted Warne-Harvey suffered severe burns, requiring three surgeries, including plastic reconstruction. Prosecutor Patrick Dennis told Canterbury Crown Court that Barratt hit the victim with a hammer even as he was being electrocuted.

Stewart and Odero, aged 16 and 17 at the time, were convicted of grievous bodily harm but cleared of intent. They were released on bail until sentencing in April.

The victim’s father, Stuart Harvey, shared how his son, an active teenager who enjoys boxing and cycling, had also been injured in a hit-and-run months earlier. His parents continue to seek justice for that incident.
