Over the weekend, Diego Leyva from Belen, New Mexico, was taken into custody after he placed a call to snitch on himself. At around 3:30 am, the culprit phoned the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office.
In a statement by the New Mexico State Police, the teen claimed to have killed four of his relatives. When the cops arrived at the crime scene, they noticed Diego standing outside the house with his hands up. During the arrest, the police maintained that he was heavily intoxicated.
Then, the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for detox. The following morning, once that was complete, he was transferred to a juvenile justice facility in Albuquerque.
Back at the crime scene, the authorities were left to deal with the horrors no family should experience. Inside Diego’s family home, the police spotted a handgun on the kitchen table.
This was allegedly the weapon the 16-year-old used in gunning down his family including his parents, a brother, and a sister. The police found his dad, Leonardo, 42, his mom, Adriana Bencomo, 35, and his two siblings, Alexander, 14, and Adrian, 16, all dead, per KRQE.
While this was shocking to the authorities, a former teacher admitted her unbelief. Vanessa LaGrange, who had Diego Leyva as her former student, spoke to The Guardian. She claimed no one could believe Diego Leyva could be responsible for such a crime. He has been charged with first-degree murder. In the meantime, the state police are investigating to determine the reason behind the gruesome murders.
