The family of 17-year-old Erik Edge, who tragically died during a routine wisdom tooth extraction in June, has filed a lawsuit against oral surgeon Dr. Bryan McLelland and Liberty Oral and Facial Surgery in Spokane, Washington.

The lawsuit alleges negligence, claiming the surgeon acted improperly by administering anesthesia while performing the procedure, Law & Crime reports.

Erik, a Gonzaga Prep student, suffered a reaction to anesthesia and died despite emergency efforts.

His parents, Mark and Sara Edge, described him as “their light” and aim to raise awareness to prevent similar tragedies. Dr. McLelland, while expressing condolences, asserts he followed proper safety protocols.
