Carol Tidwell, who resumed with Collins Intermediate School last year, was the recent adult victim of an attack by a student. This happened a few months after the school’s principal was hacked in the eye, leading her to lose the eye completely recently.
On January 21, Tidwell joined a combined classroom including 5th and 6th graders with behavioral challenges. But while the teaching was ongoing, an irritated student acted on their emotions by throwing a chair towards the teacher.
Tidwell, 57 explained to KDFW that after spotting the flying furniture she alerted her colleague. Despite dodging the chair, the paraprofessional sustained a painful injury as she leaned backward. Following the incident, the educator was treated by the school’s nurse before moving to a local hospital.
Unfortunately, this incident left the victim with a broken wrist. Meanwhile, the school continued working because, according to the district, the situation was resolved quickly. The educator was compensated, and the district promised to deal with the situation.
However, Tidwell who has since resigned, complained about the violence of the perpetrator, adding that she had touted it in the past. She believed that nothing was being done to contain the situation and stop a repetition.
Like Carol Tidwell, Casandra Rogers, the assistant principal of Collins Intermediate School was severely injured. Sadly, the 56-year-old wasn’t so lucky to tell the tale with her complete body parts.
Following a tantrum by a student with behavioral problems, her right eye got punctured. This happened in August and Rogers had hoped to get her eyes back. But on January 14, her right eye was surgically removed.
