A Texas man is facing several felony charges after his three pit bulls killed a neighbor. 38-year-old Marshall Garrett was charged just a day after he faced a separate murder charge in a different case. He now faces an additional three counts related to the dog attack that resulted in the death of Harriette Phillips last month, per the New York Post.
On March 23, 65-year-old Harriette Phillips tried to protect herself from three aggressive dogs using a hammer. She called for aid as she was attacked. Earlier, neighbors had warned Garrett about his dogs digging on Phillips’ property, which he claimed he would get under control. Later, investigators discovered her hair and clothing in the dogs’ stomachs, per a criminal complaint attained by PEOPLE.
Neighbors told Houston officials that Garrett’s dogs frequently escaped and showed aggressive behavior, with one woman reporting a recent dog bite. On April 9, the Harris County District Attorney announced that Garrett faced three felony charges for the fatal dog attack. All three of his dogs were euthanized following the attack.
Garrett was charged just one day after facing murder charges for a separate incident from Oct. 2024. He and Latrecia Washington reportedly assaulted 69-year-old Alton Martin over a $140 dispute, leading to Martin’s death from blunt force trauma.
