Ty Vaughn, 31, is accused of fatally shooting Luis Banos Norberto in the face on Jan. 14 at their Baytown apartment near Houston. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by ABC 13, Vaughn staged the crime scene and remained free for nearly two months. During that time, he sent misleading text messages and even spoke to the media.

When interviewed by reporters on Feb. 4, Vaughn appeared indifferent, stating, “I haven’t really been going to police looking for answers.” When offered condolences, he simply replied, “It is what it is.” The 31-year-old initially claimed he and Norberto had argued the night before, and he had left their apartment.

He told police he returned at 5:30 a.m. to find Norberto dead in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to the eye and a rifle placed near his arm. A torn photo of the couple was discovered nearby. However, surveillance footage contradicted Vaughn’s timeline, showing him entering the apartment at 4:05 a.m. Neighbors also reported hearing a gunshot shortly after.

Despite this, Ty Vaughn sent a text at 4:25 a.m. to his already deceased fiancé, asking why he wasn’t responding. Authorities later found incriminating Google searches on Vaughn’s phone. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
