A woman from Texas who fled the state to have an abortion is facing legal threats from her ex-boyfriend, Collin Davis. He, along with his anti-abortion attorney, intends to take legal action against her and anyone who assisted her. The woman proceeded with her abortion in Colorado despite the threats, per The Independent

The Center for Reproductive Rights staff attorney Molly Duane informed the New York Post that

“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion.”

Despite the woman already having the abortion, Mr. Davis and his attorney continue to pursue legal action against her and those they believe were involved. They argue that those who assisted in the abortion are the ones who violated Texas’ strict abortion laws, which allow lawsuits against anyone who helps or

“abets”

an

“illegal abortion,”

even if the woman cannot be sued.

While it is legal to travel across state lines for an abortion, Davis and his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell, face a challenge. District attorneys admit that enforcing abortion laws can be challenging, as per The Post.
