A toddler was discovered alone in the cold near a Jersey Shore home after the babysitter drank excessively, according to the New York Post. Luckily, a shocked neighbor saved the child and found babysitter Jena Davidson unconscious. Emergency services and officials were called to the scene.
35-year-old Davidson received life support and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, says officials.
The police department said in a statement,
“It was determined that the person who was hired to be responsible for the care of the child while the parents were working had consumed a significant amount of the homeowner’s alcohol to the point that she became unconscious and unresponsive.”
Davidson faced charges of second-degree child endangerment. The child’s parent was informed, left work, and hurried home. The woman was hired via Nanny Lane, a well-known site for discovering babysitters.
As of Jan. 15, her profile was active, stating she’s a Penn State graduate with an Elementary Education degree.
The company, Nanny Lane, made a statement, saying,
“We’re very happy to hear that the toddler is safe and that the neighbor acted quickly… We’ve blocked Jena from using Nanny Lane. She signed up over a year ago, tried our site for three days, then left and never used it again.”
“Every paid family is provided background checks as part of their membership fee, and we highly recommend that every family use them,”
the statement continued.
