Court documents have revealed horrifying details about the death of a 7-year-old girl in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
The child, who weighed just 25 pounds at the time of her death, was brought to the hospital by her parents, Lisa Mitchell and Anthony Yonko, claiming she had the flu. Medical staff reported signs of extreme malnourishment and physical abuse, including bruising and dark red secretions.
According to Law & Crime, the child, “had “sunken eyes, weighed just 29 pounds, and measured 40 inches in length” and it was noted that she essentially had skin on bone. The 7-year-old also wore a diaper small enough for a 3-year-old to fit.
On Aug. 2, 2024 she was brought to the hospital. Prosecutors allege that multiple family members participated in the girl’s abuse, which included beatings, starvation, and forcing her to wear the diaper. Police say the child was so weak she couldn’t walk or feed herself and likely suffered for months before her death.
Four adults, including the parents and two other relatives, face first-degree murder charges.
“This case underscores the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable children,” said a Midwest City official, according to reports.
