Turkish Airlines Captain’s Sudden Death During US-Turkey Flight Forces Emergency Landing
Reportedly, Captain Pehlivan fainted during the trip, causing his co-pilot and another pilot to fly off-course. Details from FlightRadar27 show the Airbus over the Canadian skies before a swift turn around Baffin Island. Following the captain’s health crisis, the flight crew attempted to revive him via first aid. Sadly their attempt failed, leading the pilots to land. According to Yahya Üstün, the airline’s spokesperson, they were unable to save him as he died before landing.
A comment from Turkish Airlines suggested that their captain was certified as sound. Back in March, the deceased passed a medical examination. The pilot began working with the airline in 2007, and there had not been any complaints about him judging from public records. The Airline backed this claim up when speaking to NBC News. They established that the 59-year-old was fit to fly following his last checkup.
In a write-up on X, the airline grieved the deceased while sending condolences to his family. Amid the tragedy, the passengers who were stuck on US soil via the JFK airport landing were catered for. Their flight to Istanbul was immediately scheduled. So far, there is no news regarding what initiated the health issues for Pehlivan who seemed medically fine. However, the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident as they are asking the airline further questions.
