Two individuals have been arrested after the demise of a 15-year-old Guatemalan boy discovered on a Westchester County sidewalk . 32-year-old Hugo Perez-Gabriel as well as a 16-year-old face charges related to the death of Jonson Temaj, whose corpse was located in New Rochelle early Thursday morning, per the New York Post.
The teen boy had relocated to the US from Guatemala two years prior to reside with his uncle, Mynor Temaj. At the time of his death, Mynor believed his nephew was in school. He expressed sadness over the loss, saying the teen had dreams of running his own business.
The uncle said, “I tried to call him, and then he doesn’t pick up the phone. And I tried to call other friends and I ask if it is true, and they said yes.”
The body of the New Rochelle High School student was discovered at the corner of Charles Street and Washington Avenue on Thursday close to 6:15 a.m. Officials reported that Perez-Gabriel and the unidentified 16-year-old pushed his body from a nearby home to the sidewalk. The teen was later declared deceased at the hospital.
Officials don’t know the cause of death, and it’s unclear if Temaj knew the suspects. Perez-Gabriel was charged with hiding a body and endangering a child, while the 16-year-old faces charges for hiding a body and possessing “forged instruments.” The police investigation is ongoing.
