The two stowaways located dead in the wheel well of a Florida Jet Blue plane have been revealed as teens from the Dominican Republic. Jeik Anilus Lusi and Elvis Borquez Castillo were discovered at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Jan. 7 and died from lack of oxygen, officials reported. According to the New York Post, Castillo was 16, while Lusi’s age hasn’t been revealed.
The plane had flown back and forth to New York City in cold weather before the bodies were discovered during a routine inspection. Their mothers identified them using photos and later provided DNA samples to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Ironelis Castillo said on Jan.4 her son was taken to a nearby airport before leaving the Dominican Republic, which was the last time she spoke to him. The plane stopped in several cities before the tragic discovery. Officials are still investigating how the teens got onto the plane.
