Balikis Adeoye didn’t hold back her words while speaking at the East London Coroner’s Court. Per The Sun, she explained the negligence of her 2-year-old daughter’s caregivers and the authorities’ complacency. In 2021, the former mom of two moved from her home country, Nigeria, to settle in the UK.

The following year, her second child and only son was diagnosed with a hole in his heart. Although her son was British, the immigrant had no home of her own. At the time, she had separated from her partner and was left to fend for both kids.

In September 2021, she approached the Newham Council for support. Consequently, the struggling mom was referred to social services. She wanted a foster home for her daughter while she looked after her sick son in the hospital. However, she was not eligible for some reasons.

First, Balikis Adeoye was considered an overstayer due to her separation from her UK partner. Also, she couldn’t access public funds due to her financial background in the country. So, social services directed her to seek help from friends and family. This forced her to keep Mazeedat in the care of people she barely knew while attending to her son at the hospital.

Mazeedat was reported missing on January 29, and on that same day, her lifeless body was discovered. The toddler was spotted in a garden while unsupervised. Autopsy reports showed that the little girl had drowned.

Following the inquest, it was decided that her death was caused by the “gross failure,” of her caretakers. The grieving mom wants the world to know her fate while trying to avert the same thing for others. At the same time, she is demanding answers.
