In a shocking case from Kansk, Russia, 29-year-old Valentina Mytko is under investigation for allegedly murdering her three young children with an axe. Authorities say she killed her four-year-old daughter and sons, aged 8 and 7 months. Then she took her surviving 7-year-old son to visit his grandparents.
The killings, described as being carried out with “particular cruelty,” occurred on April 14. Valentina’s husband was reportedly away at work during the unfortunate incident. Neighbors heard screams during the attack, particularly as the eldest child, 8, was killed.
Daily Mail reports that the surviving boy is believed to have returned home from school and witnessed the aftermath. Valentina Mytko, who regularly attended church, later took the child to her parents and broke down crying.
Her father reportedly discovered the bodies and contacted police. During questioning, she struggled to explain her actions. She allegedly stated that she “no longer had the strength” to care for the surviving child.
The murder weapon, a bloodstained, rusty axe, was found at the scene. Investigators released chilling footage of officers examining the home and the axe. Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed the children suffered fatal wounds to the head and body.
The case has also prompted scrutiny of social services, as officials had reportedly been aware that Valentina Mytko was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Despite this, no protective action was taken, and now some officials may face charges of negligence.
The tragic case has sparked national outrage and raised serious questions about mental health monitoring and child welfare protections in the region.
