A car speeding away from a Philadelphia hospital after dropping off a gunshot victim hit three nurses who were helping the patient early Saturday morning, leaving one seriously injured, according to officials, per the Associated Press.
The silver Jeep Cherokee had just dropped off the man at Penn Presbyterian Hospital around 4:30 a.m. when it struck the three male nurses, police reported. One 36-year-old nurse is in critical condition with facial injuries and internal bleeding. A 37-year-old nurse has head injuries, while a 51-year-old nurse suffered head and back injuries; both are in stable condition, police said.
The 28-year-old shooting victim came in with several gunshot wounds and might have also hurt his head in the hit-and-run, according to police. Penn Medicine described the hit-and-run as
“devastating”
but said that the staff kept working to save the gunshot victim and care for all their other patients, even while their own coworkers were being treated.
Officials mentioned that they are offering support to the victims and their families and are working with the police, who are looking into both the hit-and-run and the earlier shooting. It is unclear what the status of their health is at this time.
