A court recently decided that Vincent Lemark Burrell will live out the rest of his days behind bars. The Georgia native, convicted of maltreating over 100 pit bulls while using them for his entertainment, will be in jail for 475 years.
Burell first became a person of interest in November 2022. The police were tipped off by an Amazon delivery man who visited his property. According to the tipster, the convict chained down multiple dogs.
During investigations, the police discovered that these dogs, over 100 pit bulls, were chained next to trees and metal stakes. The owner had them all in close range but he left enough space between each dog to build an aggression.
Burrell deprived the animals of food or water and this influenced their stamina. Upon investigation, police realized that they were all underweight. Despite starving them of food, Vincent Lemark Burrell kept a live chicken which was used to tempt the dogs, while he had a break stick used for forcefully opening their mouths.
Police also found a dog treadmill and a breeding stand. Burrell was also linked to other known dogfighters. Apart from suffering the cruelty, these animals were housed in a dirty place littered with animal wastes.
According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, the living conditions of the entire property were not fit for humans, much less dogs.
Consequently, after a four-day trial, the Paulding District Attorney’s Office announced the charges leveled on Burrell. 57-year-old Vincent Lemark Burrell had been slammed with 103 counts and he was found guilty. On January 30, Burell was convicted of 93 counts of dog fighting and 10 counts of cruelty to animals.
