A lawyer in Mississippi played the role of a drug mule and allegedly tried to smuggle contraband into a detention center for his clients.
On Thursday, a wide-eyed and wet-looking Daniel Dale was arrested for his attempt to smuggle in “marijuana, a scale, cigarettes, cigar wraps and more,” WLBT reports.
“During a visitation this afternoon he was found to have several items of contraband and cell phones in an attempt to pass them to a detainee. He was detained, questioned, and later charged. Attorney Dale, in a trusted position responsible for the constitutional rights of arrested suspects, jeopardized the safety and integrity of the Hinds County Detention Facilities and the public,” the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Besides looking like he may have used the drugs himself, the 49-year-old was given a $75,000 bond and charged with two counts of conspiracy and other charges about the contraband he tried to bring to the detention center.
“Attorney Dale, allegedly posing as legal counsel for some Hinds County detainees, was allegedly smuggling cell phones and other contraband during visitations,” the sheriff’s office said.
