ABC News confirmed that Ryan Borgwardt, 45, was booked into the Green Lake County Jail on December 10. The outlet referenced the Victim Information and Notification Everyday system, claiming that no charges have been stated. However, on December 11, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office will update the public on the matter.
On August 12, Emily Borgwardt, Ryan’s wife and mother of his three kids alerted the cops about his disappearance. A day earlier, her husband of 22 years had driven to the north side of Green Lake to kayak.
Unknown to the family, this was the last time they would see Ryan — well, until his recent appearance. After searching for many days, and spending $35,000, authorities and the family all agreed that Ryan had met his untimely death.
However, about three months later, Green Lake County Sheriff Mike Podoll announced an unexpected break in the case. In October, the authorities halted searching for Ryan. They had received news from Canadian authorities claiming that Ryan’s passport was checked a day after he went missing.
The 45-year-old faked his death with the kayaking accident while communicating with another woman. Within that time he moved money into a foreign bank and changed his email. After the first press release in November, Ryan responded to the authorities with a ‘proof of life’ video.
He bravely hinted that he was living in Eastern Europe in his apartment while adding that he felt safe and secure. As to why he left behind his seemingly successful family in the US, the police determined that it was due to personal problems.
