A woman of Florida has been charged after allegedly assaulting a 72-year-old man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. 33-year-old Laura Garrett was apprehended on Tuesday by Largo Police. She faces charges for battery against an elderly person, battery on a police officer, and resisting an officer without violence, according to jail records, per Fox News.
Garrett confessed to approaching the unidentified man at Northeast Park and Paw Place to discuss President #DonaldTrump and his support for him, according to an arrest affidavit from FOX 13 Tampa Bay. During their verbal disagreement, Garrett poured a drink on the man’s head and struck him with the can, although she denied striking him. She then hopped a fence and fled the scene.
Officials later found Garrett and she allegedly resisted arrest, fighting with the officers. The arrest report says she dropped to the ground as they tried to handcuff her. When an officer attempted to escort her, she wrapped her legs around him, causing him to fall and bruise his knee, leading to another battery charge.
Reports say she continued to resist the arrest. Garrett was booked into Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday evening but released on Wednesday night, says jail records.
