At a New Zealand airport, officials discovered methamphetamine worth $2 million hidden as Christmas gifts. A 29-year-old Canadian woman brought these drugs in her carry-on bag on a flight from Vancouver to Auckland on Dec. 8, according to New Zealand Customs, per Fox News.

After landing, officers questioned the woman and checked her carry-on duffle bag, discovering over 22 pounds of methamphetamine hidden under colorful snowflake wrapping paper. Officials stated that the unnamed Canadian woman’s bag held drugs worth more than $2 million in the U.S.

Auckland Airport Manager Paul Williams described the event as a “classic attempt” by international

“criminal groups”

to take advantage of the busy travel season.

“But a busy airport does not mean Customs is not focused on or paying attention to anyone who may pose a drug risk… The airport teams are made up of vigilant officers who are intently focused on catching those trying to bring harm to New Zealand,”

Williams said.

Officers stated that the woman has appeared in district court facing charges for importing and possessing a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply.
