A woman walking her dog near the Los Angeles Convention Center was violently sexually assaulted by a homeless man in an attack captured on surveillance video, per the NY Post. Police say the suspect is still at large.
The victim, identified only as Terra, was standing with her small dog at the entrance of a downtown high-rise when a man in a black hoodie suddenly rushed her, KTLA reported. The footage shows him pinning her against a glass door and straddling her leg.
“He grabbed the back of my neck and my crotch area and I was screaming for help,”
Terra told the outlet.
She said the man didn’t say anything during the assault, only making noises. The video, timestamped 6:23 a.m. on Nov. 8, shows Terra briefly breaking free before the two move out of the camera’s view — with her dog still standing in the frame.
Terra said the attacker then slammed her to the ground.
“That’s when he hit me,”
she said. A man nearby heard her screams and intervened.
“He was on top of the guy and just hitting him in the head over and over,”
Terra said. The assailant eventually ran off.
“It’s scary to think he’s still out there,”
she said.
By the time officers arrived, the attacker had already disappeared. Police are investigating the case as sexual battery and believe the suspect is homeless.
Terra now carries Mace and a stun gun whenever she goes out.
“I’m constantly looking over my shoulder. Before I knew it, he grabbed me and I was not able to get away,”
she said.
“I hope it never happens to anyone.”
