Xavier Worthy’s ex-fiancee, Tia Jones, has obtained a protective order against him. The athlete filed a motion for protection and got it on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The protective order against the NFL star follows his release from custody after a district attorney refused to prosecute him. Jones insisted that her ex-fiance choked her and hurt her several times. However, Worthy refuted the claims of domestic violence and maintained his innocence.
Xavier Worthy’s Ex-Fiancee Obtains Protective Order
Xavier Worthy’s ex has obtained a protective order after district attorney Shawn Dicks declined to pursue the case. The track and field athlete received the protective order on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the order is temporary and will only last until a hearing is held on April 1. According to TMZ Sports, Jones mentioned in her application for a protective order against Xavier Worthy that he strangled her. She said he abused her, choking and hitting her several times. She claimed that her ex hit her at least five times last year.
In her protective order application, Tia Jones said Xavier Worthy first hit her in October 2024. The argument stemmed from a quarrel that ensued from comments Worthy’s mother made to her. She claimed she was shocked because he knew her history of abuse in past relationships. Their last altercation happened on March 7 when Worthy complained that Jones didn’t pay him and his dog attention. She claimed in her application that Worthy grabbed her throat and then knelt on it for at least 10 seconds.
Tia Jones Got Xavier Worthy Arrested
Prior to getting her protective order against Xavier Worthy, Tia Jones called the authorities on March 7. She accused him of a domestic violence felony. Authorities arrested and booked the NFL star on one charge of assaulting a family/household member while impeding their breath or circulation. However, after new evidence emerged, the Williamson County district attorney declined to prosecute Worthy.
Meanwhile, after getting the protective order against Xavier Worthy, Jones’ lawyer, Angelica Cogliano, said they would keep pursuing the case against the Chiefs receiver. On Thursday, March 13, she noted that any claims of the investigation around Worthy being closed are “patently false,” according to the New York Times. The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and Jones got engaged in July 2024.
Xavier Worthy Denies Domestic Violence Allegations
Worthy has maintained his innocence since his arrest and the protective order. After his arrest, his lawyers, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, issued a statement. They alleged that Tia Jones made a false allegation against their client. The attorneys claimed Worthy found evidence of her cheating and asked her to leave his house. However, she got angry and reportedly refused. Instead, she tried to extort him and damaged his property. They added that Jones assaulted him, but he chose not to file charges against her.
Bassett also wrote in an email, per the New York Times:
“Unfortunately, false allegations continue to be made, this time in civil court,” “Today, the accuser returned items stolen from Mr. Worthy’s residence while he was in jail and there are items still missing from when he was incarcerated. Mr. Worthy maintains his innocence and stands by the conclusions of the district attorney after law enforcement’s review of Ms. Jones’ unfounded allegations.”
Tia Jones’ protective order against Xavier Worthy definitely adds an interesting twist to the situation. Since both parties claim to be the victims, one can only hope the truth will be revealed in time.
