Ayden Braqi sadly passed away at Great Ormond Street Hospital on Thursday, surrounded by his family, after life support was removed. He had a severe, progressive neuromuscular disease without a cure. Despite his condition and being on life support, he remained cognitively aware and was able to see, hear, smell, feel, and enjoy life, per The Sun.
In a ruling released after Ayden’s passing, Mrs. Justice Morgan stated that while he found comfort with family, the burdens of his illness and treatment outweighed those benefits. She emphasized the need for an
“objective”
perspective on Ayden’s best interests, which led to the decision to end his life support. Ayden had been at Great Ormond Street Hospital since he was three months old.
Neriman testified that she often spent about 16 hours daily with her son, and Mrs. Justice Morgan acknowledged her deep devotion to Ayden.
Mrs. Justice Morgan called the case sad and unfortunate, mentioning the boy should not have to endure the burden of intensive care. However, she praised his mother for her strong support and dedication.
A hospital spokesperson said,
“Going to court is our very last resort and something we only do when all other avenues are exhausted.”
