A recent graduate with the Reddit username OtherMix3166 has taken to Reddit for advice after multiple job rejections. The graduate posted a story titled “Really lost, in dire need of advice/guidance. Please help me.” In their story, Original Poster (OP) narrated that they recently finished college but didn’t secure a job as quickly as they hoped. They asked for guidance, and other Redditors advised them on what to do. Get more details below.

Graduate Frustrated By Job Rejections

OP began by revealing that they graduated from college a few months ago. They studied Advertising and Marketing and interned while in school. Moreover, OP had experience as a data analyst and interned in data entry and annotation jobs. OP hoped their internships would help them secure a job quickly, but that didn’t work out. The advertising graduate could never get to the final stage of interviews despite being proficient in SQL, Excel, R, Power BI, and Tableau.

Meanwhile, OP finally made it to the final stage of an interview. However, they became devastated when HR didn’t show up. They added:

“I had high hopes and now I’m completely shattered. This is the worst. I can’t do this anymore. I wanedt to pursue my masters in Data Analysis/Business Analysis but now that seems bleak. I’m literally always on the verge of crying because this makes me feel worthless. My self esteem is at an all-time low and I’ve never been this depressed. What should I do?”

OP pleaded that Redditors should not slam them. They also disclosed that they used a burner account to post their story because they didn’t want their friends to know their state.

Other Redditors Share Their Thoughts

A Redditor read OP’s story about their job rejections and shared their thoughts. The Redditor with username Quiet_Persimmon_9034 commiserated with OP but advised them to inform their friends and family about their struggles. Quiet_Persimmon_9034 urged OP to let their loved ones in to receive their needed support. The Redditor also advised OP not to focus on job rejections or be anxious about their career. Quiet_Persimmon_9034 also asked OP to exercise before their interviews to release cortisol and diminish stress. They told OP:

“Focusing too much on your career can put way too much pressure on yourself and cause you to not be the best you whilst interviewing.”

They added:

“Just keep your head high and go forwards, from the sounds of things you, sound like a great candidate.”

OP responded to Quiet_Persimmon_9034, expressing gratitude for their “kind words.” They revealed that their loved ones knew about their frustrations. However, OP wanted to keep the post from them because they didn’t want to overwhelm them with their challenges. They concluded:

“I usually get very nervous for interviews, thanks for the advice I will try it.”

Moving on After Job Rejections

Job rejections are challenging for everyone. They can make you disillusioned and discouraged quickly. However, moving past them is important so you don’t lose other opportunities. You should know you are not a failure when faced with job rejections. You are not the only one who has been rejected or whose application has been declined. Job rejections don’t define you; they are an opportunity to improve.

Don’t take the job rejection personally and ask for feedback. This way, you will know what to improve upon or emphasize in future interviews. You should also not overanalyze job rejection interviews. Stay resilient and keep a positive mindset. Eventually, the job you seek will come. Sometimes, you may need to apply in several places before getting the desired job. Therefore, you should keep at it until you succeed. Job rejections are not final; they are only a stepping stone to landing your job.
